PGA Pro Peter Jacobsen Gives GOLF: The Musical The “All Jake Team Award”: December 17 on “Plugged-In”
On Wednesday, December 17 at 10 p.m., PGA tour pro and Golf Channel personality Peter Jacobsen welcomes the cast of GOLF: The Musical to his program, “Plugged-In.” That particular episode of “Plugged-In” will be devoted to the “All Jake Team Awards,” an annual year-end Golf Channel award created by Jacobsen to recognize the sport’s unique personalities, memorable moments and unusual events from the year’s golfing season. GOLF: The Musical creator Michael Roberts will receive the award from Jacobsen, who will then join the cast to perform several selections from the Off-Broadway musical, including production numbers about Tiger Woods and a “Letterman-like” countdown of reasons for a show on golf. “Plugged-In” airs Wednesday, December 17 at 10 p.m.
GOLF: The Musical features songs and comic skits by Michael Roberts with direction and choreography by Christopher Scott. The show’s material covers everything from each golfer’s dream of being a “scratch golfer,” and the lament of the great lady golfer whom no one recognizes, to a gospel revival song about Tiger Woods, an homage to Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, a man’s love song to his “Big Bertha,” a paean to miniature golf and a song about the possibility of bringing the game of golf to “the gulf.” The show even features a bit of audience participation in the form of a putting competition with prizes. GOLF: The Musical is produced by Eric Krebs and features in the cast two-time Tony nominee Joel Blum, Trisha Rapier, Christopher Sutton and Sal Viviano. Set design is by James Joughin, costume design is by Bernard Grenier, and lighting design is by Aaron Spivey. Musical direction for GOLF: The Musical is by Ken Lundie.
GOLF: The Musical began performances October 8 and had its official Off-Broadway opening November 19. Gotta love GOLF: The Musical!” Golf Magazine cheers, “GOLF: The Musical is uproarious! Terrific slapstick, sharp observations and a uniformly terrific cast make GOLF: The Musical funny and fun for the whole foursome.”
